State and County Courthouses

There are two types of courts that deal with criminal cases: state courts, and federal courts. In most instances, a charge of DUI, DWI, or drunk driving will be brought in state court, as opposed to federal court. (DUI and DWI cases are brought in federal court where the drunk driving arrest occurs on a military base, in a national park, or on other federal property.)

The state court system is broken down further by county; each county has its own courthouses, and its own local rules for criminal cases involving drinking and driving, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The information available at each county courthouse website will vary. Many counties will have detailed case information, courthouse addresses and directions, and other helpful links.
